Love Froyo in I Heart Froyo!

Let’s face it, healthy food products normally cost a bit higher than regular “not-so-healthy” options.  Yogurt, or frozen yogurt in this case, falls into this healthy item list making its price quite higher than regular ice cream.  Apparently, there’s a high price tag attached to be healthy.

I Heart Froyo wants to change all that by catering to an untapped sector of the frozen yogurt industry, by offering this frozen delight at low prices.

Yes, I meant low.

We visited their second branch located in Katipunan Avenue, Quezon City.  Riding a jeepney coming from University of Philippines Diliman, we found it a bit difficult to immediately spot the place since there was only a small doorway leading to where I Heart Froyo is located.  Due to its small location, there wasn’t a big store sign on top of the venue.  Good thing though that there were a number of posters around the Katipunan area that helped us get there.

After climbing up the stairs, we were a bit surprised at the “cuteness” of the place due to the baby pink and baby blue colors of the wall and its coziness due to it being in an enclosed area.  With real books on a few shelves near the ceiling, it felt like an apartment room that just had a yogurt area in one corner.  You can actually have your barkada here and “own” the place for a while.

Draw and write how you feel on I Heart Froyo's "freedom boards"
The walls had “freedom boards” as I Heart Froyo provided cartolina sheets with different colored markers and crayons where you can write anything you want on them.  Another side of the wall had a corkboard with push pins and a container paper and pens.  It was fun reading all the “<insert name> was here”, thank you notes to I Heart Froyo or love notes written by students from schools around the area.  There was even tissue paper with a message tacked on the corkboard, perhaps when the scrap paper ran out.

There are four sets of metal tables and chairs in the area for dine-in customers.  For a cozier experience, there is a “shoes-off” carpeted corner with bean bags for seats.

I Heart Froyo prides itself for offering low prices for good quality yogurt since they believe that it should be affordable to everyone even to those on a budget.  Being in a location surrounded by schools and universities, this is indeed a perfect market for their cause.

Who says healthy food need to be expensive?
They offer yogurt in cones (Php 35), regular cups (Php 55) and large cups (Php 70) with Php 15 for regular and Php 20 for special toppings.  Yes, it’s still not as low as soft-serve ice cream but this is perhaps the lowest priced yogurt in the country.

This is better seen when compared to other similar frozen yogurt competitors (pick a size, no toppings, original tart).

Ok, so we’ve established that the prices are indeed low.  But what about its taste and toppings?

Smothered in chocnut and mango
I Heart Froyo’s version of the original tart is nearing ice cream as its “tartiness” is a bit on the light side.  It is also a bit on the quick melt side, but not as fast as the one I experienced in other yogurt stores though.

They do not have a vast selection of toppings like most establishments as well, but they have uncommon ones like apple cinnamon, granola and chocolate mallows as well as some common ones like mini M&Ms, Oreo and cornflakes.  I did have a bit of a difficult time in picking my toppings though as my usual ones were not available.  However, on the upside I Heart Froyo gives out very generous portions of their yogurt toppings.

In my opinion, I Heart Froyo is not the best yogurt in the country, but due to its budget-friendly prices, its use of biodegradable products like paper cups and wooden spoons and its fun, interactive ambiance, I wholly recommend this place for yogurt lovers and for those who want to try frozen yogurt for the first time.

I Heart Froyo indeed!

I agree, healthy food should not be expensive. That's the reason why it's hard to be healthy because manufacturers want us to pay top dollar for these.

I'm thinking they use a similar yogurt mixture as that of the other yogurt places, but they don't have fancy frozen yogurt machines, personalized cups, a lot of decors and they are not in a mall, so I'm thinking it helped in cutting down their yogurt prices.

True, we would be seeing a lot more healthy people if the healthy variants were cheaper and taste this good :)
